Our purpose is to encourage new work from writers throughout the country; Sussex just happens to be where we started in 1935 . So, Whether you are an established writer or a complete beginner, The Sussex Playwrights' Club could be right for you.

 

Sussex Playwrights' Celebrate  75 Years of Creativity in 2010 with a new 2010 One Act Play Competition & a New Ten Minute Play Competition

DOES WRITING FOR THE THEATRE INTEREST YOU?.

Do you have a passion for plays? Are you looking for an opportunity to showcase your play, explore a work in progress or to listen to and discuss members' plays?

  • Meetings are held monthly on a Sunday evening when plays by members are given a reading. Each Play is discussed and constructively criticised Suggestions are made as to how the play might be improved and eventually marketed.
  • The readers are a mixture of experienced actors from local drama groups and professionals All members are encouraged to attend and take part in these discussions.
  • If you are interested in writing plays or being a reader or simply enjoy talking about theatre, then you should join The Sussex Playwrights' Club.
  • We participate in events such as Brighton Festival. We are members of Brighton & Hove Arts Council, www.bh-arts.org.uk as well as enjoying links with the New Venture Theatre http://www.newventure.org.uk/  In addition we organise national playwriting competitions.
  • Membership costs £10.00 per calendar year. A concessionary fee of £6.00 is available for students and the unemployed. Also non members and guests are welcome at a nominal £2.00 per meeting, if you would like to 'try us out' first.
  • Meetings are held at New Venture Theatre, Bedford Place, Brighton BN1 2PT
